It was life! It was a home from home run by his granddad, UK soundsystem legend Count Shelley. He remembers the time when he first fell in love with the sound that has defined his career. At this time, Shy was DJing in a dancehall system and taking his first steps in production. Deciding to try his hand at the new style, he did what any enterprising teenage junglist did in sampled every record he could get his hands on. A chance encounter with his friend and soon to be UK hip-hop icon Skinnyman put him on a new path. He had linked up with these guys called Sound Of The Underground Records and done a hip-hop project with them. He returned to SOUR—this time as a producer. It felt like it was writing itself.

Original Nuttah Acapella. Don Sharicon. Other Versions. Ina Dancing Mood Deluxe Edition. Original Nuttah.
Released by Shy Fx in '94, the tune was a major breakthrough for the ragga style of drum n bass that was coming through. And it was UK Apache, a proper pioneer in the scene, who voiced the classic track over Shy's beats. At some stage post '90s jungle, Abdul stepped away from recording and started dedicating more time to Islam. Keeping the spirit of the original track, what I believe has been dubbed 'I Was A Nuttah', Abdul performs acapella calling for peace, respect and a better way of life from the 'rude boys' he shouts out in the original.
